Choose a Counselor for your Teen
For your convenience, online appointments are available. If you are interested in online counseling please email me: email@example.com
Much of my professional mental health counseling background includes working with teen girls aged 13-18 years and their parents and women aged 18-55. The different age groups experience different developmental stages, life experiences, social skills, challenges and relationships; therefore they experience the following symptoms differently. If you are coping with the following symptoms you may find my services helpful:
I believe it is important for a professional counselor to be well versed in several different therapy techniques. I am trained in several different psychotherapeutic interventions and techniques. However, being trained in several therapy techniques alone doesn't make an excellent professional counselor. Mental health therapy is about more than a therapeutic technique; your ideal professional counselor should also help you feel comfortable in their office, listen to you with empathy, meet you where YOU are in your healing process and not try to fit you into a particular therapy technique or make promises that a certain technique will heal you.
I believe the best therapy is achieved by following a person's own unique individual physiology, meeting at their starting point and following their lead while making use of my knowledge and expertise to achieve their goals.
Counseling services are provided in my office or via online. You may make an appointment by calling my office 920.944.8118 or registering online by the link above titled 'set appointment now'. **Most major insurance accepted**
Regarding Tweens & Teens:
I believe in the power of adolescence and the brilliance of an adolescents resilience. I believe adolescent's are capable of whatever they believe they want to be and do. Therefore, I have designed a counseling method intended to meet the needs of teenagers. My counseling technique is unique, based on over 15 years of experience working with teens. I utilize several different counseling modalities focusing on the physical, mental, emotional, intellectual and spiritual nature of teens and their family. I adore teenagers and their glorious rebel nature because I understand it; I understand the biological changes occurring inside of their brain, I understand the desire for autonomy and independence, I understand the painful and often confusing need to create a self-identity. I believe teen brains are as unique and creative as well as tumultuous and impulsive. Being a teenager in the world today is not easy; and parenting a teenager in this world is also not easy.
I believe ALL parents are doing the best they can with the tools and understanding they possess. I believe it is important to include the parents and siblings as a whole in psychotherapy services. I believe ALL parents love their children and want the best for them. Although I meet with teens one on one to work on individual treatment goals, my psychotherapy practice style designs treatment plans that from time to time include the parents and siblings of teen clients. It is always abundantly clear to me how much parents love and adore their teenager; I know this because of how frustrated they appear. Through empathy, compassion and understanding while working WITH parents and teens I believe I can make an even bigger positive impact.
Whether it's the first or sixth time a parent is parenting through the teenage years, it's that particular teens first go at being a teenager. And since everyone is different, everyone requires a different response and plan. Often, a shift in perspective is all it takes: I believe teens are 'adults in training'. When one sees and behaves towards teens as 'adults in training' it often allows for a much more empathetic and compassionate perspective. I believe you WILL benefit from my counseling services if you are a teen girl, or a parent/guardian of a teen. I can assist you with:
Building identity and self confidence
Exercise and fitness
Bullying, peer pressure and other social relationship issues
LIfe Coaching, or simply Coaching, is a profession where an individual can hire a mentor in the form of a personal Coach. Hiring a Coach is a way to buy a mentor and guide, gaining support that otherwise may be difficult to find. The benefits of hiring a Coach are to help keep you focused, connected to desired outcomes, motivated, accountable and living a life 'on purpose'. Mental Health Counselors or Therapists are uniquely qualified to make great Coaches because they are experienced and trained in:
Skillful listening: deep & empathetic listening as well as the ability to pick up on non verbal expressions to better assist.
Re-framing: the skill of putting a positive or less innocuous spin on a statement or belief expressed by a client. New perspectives shape insight!
Ability to suspend judgement: counselors and therapists have 'heard it all', and understand how to meet a client where they are without judgment or criticism.
Experience with confidentiality and ethics: strict confidentiality guidelines and hours of training in ethics promote a safe and secure experience for the client.
Professional solution seeker: professional training and experience in many modalities which enhances the Coaching experience and brings it to broader and creative avenues.
The differences between Coaching and Counseling are:
Coaching is future-focused, Counseling is past-focused.
Coaching is solution-focused, Counseling is problem-focused.
Coaching works towards outcomes, Counseling works towards emotions.
Coaches do not give recommendations, Counselors give recommendations
Coaching asks the question "How can we change?", Counseling asks the question "What is the reason to change?"
Coaching seeks to assist client in finding their own solutions, Counseling seeks to provide a diagnosis and treatment.
Coaching uses client language and tone to recap important words or phrases, Counseling uses paraphrasing to restate using other words.
Mental Health Counseling/Therapy is needed in some cases and a Coach with a background in Mental Health Counseling/Therapy is best skilled at recognizing when a client may need more than Coaching; and also be able to provide that mental health treatment without having to change providers. It's a bonus to hire a Coach with a background and professional training in mental health counseling. While it is important to note Coaching and Counseling are different in a number of ways, there is no reason to suggest that one is better than the other or that they cannot coexist. Many coaches were once, and still are, counselors and many counselors have knowledge of coaching practices.

It's All In Your Head Sports & Fitness Coaching VISION: Applying mental discipline MISSION: To provide motivated athletes and fitness enthusiasts education and support to discipline their mental attitudes and emotions to improve performance. WHAT IS IT? Sport psychology addresses how psychological factors affect performance. Many studies have shown an athlete’s performance is the direct result of their mental discipline. The potential of sport psychology in high school and college sports has not been realized. What’s in the brain is in the body and what is in the body is in the brain. When an athlete or fitness enthusiast’s physical performance suffers it’s likely because their mental discipline suffered first, unless they have been physically injured. As a former Division I athlete and current fitness enthusiast I have first hand experience regarding the relationship between an athlete/fitness enthusiast’s mental discipline and their physical performance. I have a strong passion and years of experience in mental health as well as sports and fitness; combining my experience with sports and mental discipline, as well as other innovative techniques I have created: It’s All In Your Head™ sports and fitness counseling. A person’s ability to perform is in the brain; the brain conceptualizes the attitude, the origination of all physical activity. Thoughts happen first, then action. Even instinct is damaged when an athlete’s mental discipline is weak. How an athlete or fitness enthusiast perceives or thinks about their ability, limits, pressures, demands, injury, etc., impacts their self-confidence, which can significantly impact how they perform physically.
